Artifact #2: Writing Response
Why it's in my portfolio
With this writing assignment, I received a 9/10, one point short and not even at the hands of my writing itself. This piece forced me to focus both on the topic and pay close attention to the audience. I had to make sure that I could brainstorm a believable ad and not forget who would be reading it, while lastly, making sure it accomplished the goals asked of me for the assignment. I was able to innovate a compelling storyline that showcases one of my strengths as a writer and effectively achieve the expectation of being a well written ad.
Artifact #2:
"We have a brand-new type of pencil, never before seen on the market. What some see as a misshapen and deformed pencil, others see as a unique and one-of-a-kind writing utensil. It's the perfect example of "what matters is on the inside" as it writes and erases just the same as any regular smooth pencil. To add, the dents and dings create a perspective that this pencil has a story and experiences of its own, ones which the holder may never know of. Now at a cheaper price for just $0.49 this new form of writing tool can be yours! Its ability to perform the tasks of a regular looking pencil, in addition to a new unique grip is the reason so many people are looking to secure this purchase. Will you be next?"
Student Learning objective: Decision Making and Production
This writing response achieves this learning objective not only by serving a specific purpose, but also by demonstrating knowledge over the specific audience and genre of writing required for this assignment. By using my understanding of the audience I was able to draw in the readers and use specific grammaticism to serve the intended purpose of "selling" the pencil. Without a solid and clear understanding of all of the above I would not have been able to produce a convincing and clear response.
